Associate Provost, Teaching and Learning (2005-Present)

The primary responsibilities of the Associate Provost Learning Technologies are as follows:

  • Responsible for online, distance pilot program to build a flexible-continuing studies unit.
  • Responsible for University course evaluations.
  • Responsible for teaching/learning support service (innovation Center) for university faculty to support transformation of teaching and learning practices.
  • Disseminating best practices in teaching and learning and relevant research through online communication.
  • Leading the development of research projects concerning the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
  • Providing strategic leadership regarding application to the Postsecondary Education Quality Assurance Board (PEQAB) for approval for the delivery of hybrid distance education courses at UOIT.
  • Providing consultative services to individual faculty members to advise about and support effective strategies for improvements in teaching using learning technology.
  • Promoting the development and delivery of relevant and timely on-campus seminars regarding teaching and learning practices.
  • Providing strategic leadership concerning the expansion of hybrid course delivery at UOIT.

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) is Canada's newest postsecondary institution located on the campus of Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario. UOIT is Ontario's first laptop university, utilizing emerging information and communication technologies to expand instructional opportunities and learning options to students within the six founding faculties.

The primary responsibilities of the Associate Provost Learning Technologies were as follows:

  • Designed, implemented and evaluated a campus-wide Strategic Plan for learning technologies.
  • Policy development processes pertaining to the use of technology for teaching and learning.
  • Reviewed and approved curricula for all undergraduate programs (Chair: UOIT Program and Curriculum Review Committee).
  • Planned and implemented faculty development in areas of e-learning and information and communication technology.
  • Supported faculty to develop web-enhanced courses and multimedia components.
  • Coordinated and integrated learning initiatives and information technologies projects within and between UOIT faculties.
  • Supported the Research Office to establish a Learning Technologies Research Unit building upon the test-bed technology infrastructure.
  • Established positive working relationships between UOIT , government, industry and key stakeholder organizations to design and implement value-added collaborative projects.
  • Promoted and marketed UOIT and its leading-edge use of technology and web-centric learning on both provincial and national bases.
